Pakistan
won the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup, beat Sri Lanka won the final on 21st June, 2009. Sri Lanka was unbeaten through out the tournament before reaching the final of T20 WC.

There were so many record broken and many new records were made in the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup. Unfortunately no one score any century in this tournament and Chris Gayle is the only batsman who hit a ton in T20 WC in 2007.

Pakistan missed in 2007 but they have done this time as they won the 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, beat the favorite Sri Lanka in the Final by 8 wickets with 8 balls remaining at Lord's London on Sunday, 21st June, 2009. SL made 138/6 in 20 overs and Pak scored 139/2 in 18.4 overs.

Sri Lanka who were unbeaten in the tournament but failed to cross the final hurdle as they got the worst start and reduced to 32/4 due to fine bowling by Abdul Razzaq took 3 wickets in the start but captain Sangakkara batted brilliantly under pressure with unbeaten 64 runs and put 68 runs in 42 balls with Angelo Mathews who made 35 not out to take the score to a fighting total of 138 runs in 20 overs.

Pakistan got a good start by opener Kamran Akmal made 37 runs and then a lovely inning by hard hitter Shahid Afridi who made unbeaten 54 runs off 40 balls well supported by Shoaib Malik with patience inning of 24 unbeaten runs to take them home comfortably with 8 balls remaining.

In the 2nd Semi Final of ICC Twenty20 World Cup, title favorite Sri Lanka easily beat West Indies by 57 runs on Friday, 19th June, 2009 at The Oval. SL made 158/5 in 20 overs and restricted WI to 1o1 all out in 17.4 overs and play T20 World Cup Final with Pakistan on Sunday, 21st June, 2009.

Sri Lanka invited to bat 1st put 73 runs for the 1st wickets in 10.3 overs thanks to good batting by Jayasuriya and Dilshan. Tilakratne Dilshan hit his best inning of T20 with and highest individual score of this tournament with unbeaten 96 runs off just 57 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.

West Indies got the worst start of their T20 game lost 3 wickets in 1st over with 1 run on the board, due to deadly bowling by Angelo Mathews took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs. Chris Galyle tried to clinch the match with unbeaten 63 runs off 50 balls but ran out of the partners as all out on 101 in 17.4 overs.

In a thrilling 1st semifinal match of 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, Pakistan beat title favorite South Africa by 7 runs to reach the 2nd consecutive final of T20 World Cup on Thursday, 18th June, 2009 at Nottingham, Trent Bridge . Pak made 149/4 in 20 overs and SA scored 142/5 in 20 overs.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat 1st reduced to 28/2 but a 67 runs 3rd wicket partnership between Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik contributed 51 runs off 34 balls with 8 fours and 34 runs respectively helped them to reach a respectable total of 149/4 in 20 overs.

In reply South Africa started well but 2 quick wickets by Shahid Afridi, took 2 wickets for just 16 runs in 4 overs sent back them on back foot. Kallis scored fighting 64 runs off 54 balls and in the end JP Duminy unbeaten 40 runs but not enough to clinch the match.
