Pakistan are ICC World Twenty20 Champions, beat Sri Lanka in the Final by 8 wickets

Pakistan missed in 2007 but they have done this time as they won the 2009 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, beat the favorite Sri Lanka in the Final by 8 wickets with 8 balls remaining at Lord's London on Sunday, 21st June, 2009. SL made 138/6 in 20 overs and Pak scored 139/2 in 18.4 overs.

Sri Lanka who were unbeaten in the tournament but failed to cross the final hurdle as they got the worst start and reduced to 32/4 due to fine bowling by Abdul Razzaq took 3 wickets in the start but captain Sangakkara batted brilliantly under pressure with unbeaten 64 runs and put 68 runs in 42 balls with Angelo Mathews who made 35 not out to take the score to a fighting total of 138 runs in 20 overs.

Pakistan got a good start by opener Kamran Akmal made 37 runs and then a lovely inning by hard hitter Shahid Afridi who made unbeaten 54 runs off 40 balls well supported by Shoaib Malik with patience inning of 24 unbeaten runs to take them home comfortably with 8 balls remaining.
